Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park

In the Southwest corner of Alberta, Canada lays one of the most precious gems of nature: Waterton Lakes National Park. Waterton is situated in one of the narrowest regions of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Glacier National Park and Waterton share the same border, forming the famous Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park.

The history of this park goes back to 1932, when the United States and Canada joined hands to create the world’s first International Peace Park.

On December 6, 1995, the park was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

Hiking in Waterton-Glacier International Park is moderately easy. The 14 km hike along the western shore of Waterton Lake starts from the Bertha Trail Head, making a stop at the International Boundary for the moving ceremony, “Hands Across the Border”. You must pre-register to enjoy the combination of the hike, picnic lunch, ceremony and boat ride back.

Waterton-Glacier International Park is an apt place for people who enjoy the rugged natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains, wildflowers andcrystal clear lakes, as well as golf courses, village boutiques, mountain view suites, fine dining withfresh local ingredients, honeymoon and conference opportunities, hiking and other relaxing activities.
